For more than 10 years, SemaConnect has been an advocate for electrifying transportation and making electric vehicles (EVs) accessible to everyone, everywhere. As EVs become more popular and receive more national attention, SemaConnect has become a champion of the industry – something that is being noticed by elected officials.
Our proudest moment of 2021 happened in December when our Founder and CEO, Mahi Reddy, was chosen to represent the EV charging industry in a briefing with Vice President Kamala Harris. During the briefing, the Vice President was able to test a SemaConnect Level 2 EV charging station and ask questions about the charging process. She was impressed by the station’s simplicity and reliability. With its universal J1772 plug, all electric vehicles can charge at a SemaConnect station.
Level 2 EV charging will lead the way in shifting the paradigm of fueling. Instead of going to a gas station, drivers will be able to fuel at home, at work, and wherever else they park. This is especially important for creating accessible charging in underserved and rural communities.
“I was honored to meet with Vice President Harris,” said Mr. Reddy. “As a company committed to making electric vehicles ubiquitous through EV infrastructure, the Biden-Harris Administration’s focus on expanding access to electric vehicles is welcomed.” Being selected to represent the industry is a testament to SemaConnect’s strategic vision and smart infrastructure solutions.
While the COVID-19 pandemic limited conferences last year, we were honored to meet with community leaders during several private events. We were honored to host Jarryd Hawkins, Senator Benjamin Cardin, and Congressman Anthony Brown at our Bowie, MD Headquarters. In our tours of the SemaConnect offices, assembly shop, and warehouse, we highlighted our charging stations and network solutions.
In October, we joined the City of Bowie and the Prince George County Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting celebrating the installation of additional SemaConnect charging stations for the city fleet. We also sponsored the National Governors Association reception in December where we were able to emphasize the importance of EV charging infrastructure to state governors and their staff. Maryland First Lady, Yumi Hogan, visited our display and expressed her excitement about the direction the EV industry is going.
Our company leaders also participated in virtual meetings with White House representatives prior to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) passing in Congress. In the future, when the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, we look forward to hosting many more visits and events.
